This pub is named after the literal translation of Penarth, with ‘pen’ meaning ‘head’ and ‘arth’ meaning ‘bear.’ About 150 years ago, Penarth was a small village with a few whitewashed cottages and farmhouses and a population of just 105. The opening of the dock in 1865 and the arrival of the railway marked a significant change for Penarth. Much of the town’s early development was overseen by Robert Forrest, who managed the Glamorgan section of the Windsor estates, which owned much of the land in Penarth.

Our ingredients are selected for their great quality, value & locality. We source Welsh products wherever possible and work with local suppliers to ensure we can offer the best value for money to our guests.
